Neben der favorisierten Stummfilm-Hommage <em>The Artist<\/em> oder Wim Wenders 3D-Dokumentation <em>Pina<\/em> darf sich auch der animierte Kurzfilm <em>The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore<\/em> der beiden US-Amerikaner William Joyce und Brandon Oldenburg Hoffnungen auf den renommierten Filmpreis machen. Der Link zum 15-min\u00fctigen Streifen, der seit dieser Woche kostenfrei in Netz zu sehen ist, ging schon durch diverse Biblioblogs und soll auch hier <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/35404908\">nicht verschwiegen werden<\/a>. Der Titel h\u00e4lt auf alle F\u00e4lle, was er verspricht. Hier die englischsprachige Originalbeschreibung zum Film, der g\u00e4nzlich ohne Dialog auskommt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Inspired in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, \u201cMorris Lessmore\u201d is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation), award-winning author\/illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style of animation that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals.\u201cMorris Lessmore\u201d is old-fashioned and cutting edge at the same time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bei dem Film handelt es sich um die erste Produktion des Animationsstudios <em>Moonbot<\/em>. Koregisseur Joyce hat fr\u00fcher bei Pixar gearbeitet, was man dem Film deutlich anmerkt. Als Vorlage f\u00fcr die bibliophile Titelfigur diente \u00fcbrigens William C. Morris (\u2020 2003), der mehrere Jahrzehnte lang die Kinderbuchabteilung des Verlags HarperCollins leitete und auch Ansprechpartner f\u00fcr US-amerikanische Bibliotheken war. Die Oscars werden am 26.
