Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit,GTZ

The GTZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. It was founded in 1975 as a company under private law. The GTZ employs some 10.650 staff and the Head Office is in Eschborn near Frankfurt am Main. The clients are the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Develpment (BMZ), other German ministries, partner-country governments, international clients and private enterprises. GTZ works on a public-benefit basis and operates in almost 130 countries of Africa, Asia, Latin Amerika, the Eastern European countries in transistion and the New Independent States (NIS). GTZ’s services span a wide range of activity areas, from economic development and democracy, health and basic education to environmental protection, resouce conservation, agriculture, fishing and nutrition. The first GTZ office in Ulaanbaatar was set up in 1999. Currently there are 12 projecs and programms of Technical Cooperation implemented through GTZ in Mongolia for example the Support the Privatization of Veterinary Services

The Mongolian State University of Agriculture

The Mongolian State University of Agriculture was established in 1958 as the first national agricultural educational organization in Mongolia. It contains four leading scientific institutions in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry, Vegetation and Agriculture, and Plant Conservation. MSUA consists of seven schools as well as the Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Research and Training Institute of Plant Science and Agriculture, the Plant Protection Research Institute, and the Institute of Animal Husbandry. Our connection in this exchange has been with the Department of International Affairs and the School of Veterinary Medicine.

The School of Veterinary Science and Biotechnology

The faculty of veterinary science was one of the three fundamental academic units when the National University of Mongolia was established in 1942. Since 2001 the faculty has expanded and been reorganized as the School of Veterinary Science and Biotechnology. It contains 5 departments: Morphology and physiology, Non-infectious diseases, Infectious and parasitic diseases and microbiology, Surgery and reproduction, and Veterinary sanitation and hygiene. The School of Veterinary Science and Biotechnology now has a staff of over 40. In 2006 more than 800 students were enrolled in its bachelor´s, master´s and PhD programs.
