Summary: While Europe is often imagined as progressive and liberal, attitudes toward gay people differ between European countries and regions. The analysis explores the development of anti-gay attitudes and the extent to which these attitudes are linked to party family support, revealing that liberalization is neither linear nor uniform and that anti-gay attitudes remain politically consequential in regionally specific ways. This study contributes to the understanding of how moral issues structure partisan competition in contemporary Europe.
