Die letzten Tage haben wir uns den Norden Jordaniens etwas näher angesehen. Die Ausflüge, die wir dorthin gemacht haben, waren eingerahmt in eine blühende Frühlingslandschaft. Wäre ich in Deutschland, hätte ich das Gefühl mitten im Juni zu stecken, aber hier ist natürlich alles viel früher dran. Da zudem alles voll ist mit Olivenhainen, hat man ein bißchen das Gefühl irgendwo in Griechenland, Südfrankreich oder Italien unterwegs zu sein.
Die Ruinen von Gerasa und Gadara, die eigentlich die Hauptprogrammpunkte im Norden waren, sind fast unter einem Blumenteppich verschwunden, was sehr malerisch gewirkt hat. Beide Städte waren Teil der Dekapolis, einem römischen Städtebund.
Die Ruinen von Gerasa
Gerasa - Hauptstrasse
Gerasa (heute Jerash), das man gerne als „Pompeij des Ostens“ bezeichnet, war schon in der Bronze- und Eisenzeit besiedelt, berühmt ist es aber vor allem für seine teilweise noch sehr gut erhaltenen Bauten aus dem 2. Jh. AD. Man betritt die Stadt durch den Hadriansbogen, läuft auf der alten Strasse vorbei am Hippodrom – wo für die Touristen immer noch Pferderennen veranstaltet werden – spaziert über das Forum und die alte Strassenkreuzung und wenn man dann im alten Lebensmittelmarkt (Macellum) steht oder in einem der beiden Theater, fühlt man sich fast 1800 Jahre in der Zeit zurück versetzt. Nur das Wetter hat nicht so richtig mitgespielt, es hat den ganzen Tag geregnet und hatte nur 12 Grad, was einem nach den heißen Tagen in Südjordanien bitterkalt vorkommt. Entsprechend haben wir gefroren.
Gerasa - Artemis-Tempel
Dafür hatten wir in Gadara (heute Umm Qays) wieder schönes Wetter und dazu ein schon fast fürstliches Mittagessen – nicht wegen des Essens selbst, sondern wegen des Restaurants. Das Resthouse in Gadara ist nämlich mindestens so berühmt, wie die Ruinen selbst. Man tront dort auf großen gepolsterten Sesseln über der antiken Stadt, mit Blick auf den See Genezareth und die Berge und schlürft gemütlich seinen Limonen-Minze-Drink. Aber die Ruinen kamen auch nicht zu kurz, wobei ich mich nur schwer entscheiden kann, ob nun die Säulen, Strassen und die antike Ladenstrasse beeindruckender waren, oder die Flora und Fauna dort, denn alles versank in einem Meer aus Blüten.

Gestern haben wir dann noch die Grabung des DEI auf dem Tell Zira’a besucht, der direkt neben Gadara liegt und von der Frühbronzezeit bis ins 19. Jh. besiedelt war, was u.a. damit zu erklären ist, dass er verkehrstechnisch günstig an einer alten Handelsstrasse liegt. Und Tell Safud, wo man bronzezeitliche Baureste bewundern konnte, stand ebenfalls auf dem Programm.
Ansonsten verbringen wir unsere Freizeit derzeit damit, uns auf dem Heimweg irgendwelche typisch mitteleuropäischen Gerichte auszudenken und sie dann möglichst gut nachzukochen. Das freut vor allem die Mitreisenden, die seit Herbst 08 unterwegs sind und die letzten Monate nur selten Gelegenheit hatten solche zu essen. Vorgestern gabs z.B. Kaiserschmarrn mit Apfelmus und davor Käsespätzle mit Salat – und es war ziemlich lecker.
Weitere Neuigkeiten in Kürze (wobei wir jetzt erst einmal wieder Strecke zurücklegen werden, d.h. ich weiss noch nicht, wann ich mich wieder melden kann).
