The recent split in the U.S. labor movement has been interpreted as a result of disagreements over ongoing reforms. The differences, however, do not amount to a fundamental schism between organizational principles, and there is significant variation of practice within the two federations, AFL-CIO and Change-to-Win, as well as pragmatic cooperation. It remains to be seen whether the split will create healthy competition or increased fragmentation.
