I began by gaining knowledge of the types of signals to be acquired and analysed in 7T laminar fMRI and knowledge of the most common statistical packages used in data analysis. In the following weeks I practised these skills on an existing dataset provided by Prof. de Martino. I also gained access to educational materials prepared by Dr. Federico de Martino and received one-on-one consultation sessions with the Prof. de Martino as well as scientific exchange within the research group.

I then adapted the behavioural paradigm of my previous study on learning and deploying perceptual predictions (using EEG) to fMRI and the auditory modality. I piloted the experiment behaviourally and using technical pilots in the fMRI facility.
I received hands-on supervision from the Prof de Martino and his research group members as well as remote co-supervision by my primary PhD supervisor Dr. Auksztulewicz.

Upon completion of this, I piloted the study with another volunteer in the 7T fMRI scanner and proceeded to adapt analysis scripts to the pilot data. Using this pilot data, I evaluated initial results and troubleshooted behavioural paradigm scripts and analysis scripts.

When piloting had been completed, I proceeded to acquire data from 6 participants Data acquisition in N=6 participants. I conducted concurrent preprocessing of data while collecting data. I conducted scaning sessions together with colleagues from the research group of Prof de Martino, while I conducted preprocessing independently based on the outcome of preprocessing the pilot data, with individual feedback from supervisors on demand.

Finally, I conducted statistical analysis of the acquired data, which I completed independently based on skills I had learned earlier in the traineeship, with individual feedback from supervisors on demand
