When I started my internship at Boston Children’s Hospital, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, I had great respect for the institution. Harvard is globally recognized as one of the best universities, and I was eager to understand what exactly makes it stand out. I wanted to discover what contributes to its exceptional reputation and whether its research environment is truly as unique as often portrayed. At the same time, I was curious about how research there would compare to Germany and whether Germany genuinely lags behind in terms of scientific excellence.

Biology Internship at the University of Washington, Seattle

The Masters of Biochemistry program at the Freie Universität Berlin involves multiple research projects allowing students to become familiar with academic research in different groups and fields. These projects can be carried out in one of the research groups across the vast Berlin research landscape but also in institutions across Germany or abroad. I had already completed one of these mandatory research projects in a group in Berlin and was excited to experience research abroad and especially in the USA with its world-renowned universities.

Während meines Biochemiestudiums habe ich bereits mehrfach die Möglichkeit ergriffen, Kurse und Praktika im Ausland zu absolvieren. Daher war ich auch sehr darum bemüht mein letztes Forschungsprojekt außerhalb Deutschlands durchzuführen. Durch die ERASMUS+ weltweit Förderung wurde es mir ermöglicht, für 6 Monate in Boston, USA, zu leben. Ich durfte in einem Labor der Harvard Medical School am Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) lernen und forschen.
