As part of my master’s program in economics, I had the opportunity to complete a three-month internship at Universidad Loyola Andalucía in Seville. My area of work was the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU), which is based at the university. The internship lasted from September 23, 2024, to December 20, 2024, and provided me with valuable insights into international university cooperation as well as the economic and geopolitical aspects of academic networking.
My main tasks included communication and network management with partner universities worldwide. I contributed to the evaluation and further development of the IAJU’s communication strategy and analyzed its progress over the past two years. A particular focus was placed on the economic sustainability and geopolitical framework of international collaborations.
A typical workday included:
- Analyzing and evaluating existing communication strategies
- Creating a report on past successes and potential improvements
- Collaborating with international partners to strengthen the network
- Meetings with expert from the education and economic sectors to discuss global trends
Through this internship, I was able to significantly develop both my professional and personal skills. I gained practical insights into the economic and political challenges of international university cooperation. The evaluation of the communication strategy required a structured and data-driven analysis, which strengthened my analytical skills. Regular interactions with international colleagues helped me improve my English and Spanish language skills while expanding my intercultural competence. Additionally, writing a comprehensive report allowed me to place economic aspects into a broader global context and enhance my strategic thinking.
The work environment at Universidad Loyola Andalucía was supportive and friendly. The IAJU team was very welcoming and I was always encouraged to contribute my own ideas. I particularly appreciated the regular meetings, where I received valuable feedback on my work and had the opportunity to discuss current developments in international education with decision-makers.
The internship at Universidad Loyola Andalucía was an enriching experience, providing me with hands-on insights into international university cooperation as well as valuable economic and geopolitical perspectives. Especially for economics or business students interested in international education policy and global economic relations, such an internship is a good opportunity to bridge theory and practice.
I recommend this internship and am very grateful for the valuable experiences I gained during my time at IAJU.
