Excellence, diversity & gender

DiGENet lunchtalk | December, 2nd 2024 | 12 – 2pm – The Diversity and Gender Equality Network (DiGENet) of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) invites interested people to a lunchtalk with experts from the US and Germany. They discuss how to combine success, excellence, and inclusion in academia. The lunchtalk is at Freie Universität, a registration is required until November, 20th.

The lunchtalk organized by DiGENet offers new perspectives on science and diversity. The three panelists Jutta Allmendinger, Michèle Lamont and Frank Dobbin will discuss how universities can redefine success, excellence, and inclusion in academia and what an antiracist and diversity-sensitive perspective should entail in the US and in Germany.

The objective of this panel is to critically examine and redefine the concepts of excellence and challenging traditional notions of meritocracy from an antiracist and diversity-sensitive perspective. The discussion will explore how organizational policies, cultural norms, and societal values influence and shape academic institutions, with a focus on promoting more inclusive and equitable environments for all status groups, from students to faculty members.
