Das Digital National Security Archive der USA gilt als die umfangreichste Sammlung wesentlicher Primärdokumente zur US-Außen- und Militärpolitik seit 1945. Die Datenbank enthält über 50.000 der wichtigsten freigegebenen Dokumente mit mehr als 650.000 Seiten. Es handelt sich dabei sowohl um politische Schriften wie Direktiven des Präsidenten, Memos, diplomatische Depeschen als auch um Sitzungsnotizen, unabhängige Berichte, Briefings, Mitteilungen aus dem Weißen Haus, E-Mails, vertrauliche Briefe und andere geheime Dokumente.
Über Nationallizenz hatten FU-Angehörige bislang Zugriff auf folgende Untersammlungen:

Durch einen Test bis 6. September 2015 sind nun alle über 40 Unterkollektionen für den Zugriff im FU-Netz auf einer neuen Plattform freigeschaltet, darunter Dokumente zur US-Außenpolitik in Afghanistan, Argentinien, über die Berlin-Krise, Chile, die Volksrepublik China, Kolumbien, Guatemala, El Salvador, Iran, Irak, Japan, Mexiko, Nicaragua, den Philippinen, Südafrika, der Sowjetunion, Vietnam und Nord- und Südkorea.
